Research capacity builder
This programme aims to work closely with NHS, industry and academia to strengthen the region-wide research infrastructure.
It is supporting the establishment of the new National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), Kent, Surrey and Sussex Clinical Research Networks (KSS CRNs). It uses the collaborative momentum gained in developing the Collaboration for Leadership and Applied Research and Care (CLAHRC) bid to begin further research capacity-building initiatives.
We are adding value by establishing new research collaborations across Kent, Surrey and Sussex. This includes setting up a research capacity development group. It strengthens collaboration amongst academics and others. It operates at the interface between training/education providers (Health Education Kent, Surrey, Sussex, NIHR, and higher education institutions), research support staff and NHS/industry.
We are also helping to enhance the regional Applied Health Research infrastructure and increase research capacity. This includes supporting the activities of research establishments who aspire to gain Clinical Trials Unit accreditation by 2015.
